US President Donald Trump hinted on September 3 that the US would impose new sanctions on Russia if Moscow did not end the war in Ukraine. Trump said “you’ll see something happen” if he was not satisfied with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s response, according to AFP.

“I have no message to President Putin. He knows my position and he will make a decision one way or another,” Trump told reporters at the White House as he met Polish President Karol Nawrocki.

“Whatever his decision is, we will either be happy with it or not happy with it. And if we are not happy, you’ll see something happen,” the US leader said.

Trump’s comments came as Putin vowed to continue the war in Ukraine if a peace deal is not reached.

AFP news agency said President Trump’s diplomatic efforts to reach a peace deal in Ukraine appear to be at an impasse.

A White House official said Trump would speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on September 4, after Zelensky and European leaders said they expected such a call.
