Kathy Griffin Reflects on Past Relationship with Jack Black and Their Hilarious Post-Shower Moment

Kathy Griffin is looking back on her brief romance with School of Rock star Jack Black—and sharing a cringeworthy yet amusing memory from their time together.

In a recent TikTok, the comedian, 64, reminisced about dating Black, 55, in the 1990s, showing a throwback photo of the two embracing on a couch.

“This is a picture of me and my then-boyfriend, Jack Black, who you probably know mostly from School of Rock,” she teased. Griffin joked that dating Black made her seem “cool” among other guys, but quickly clarified, “By the way, dating is a very loose term.”

She then recalled a memorable moment while staying at Black’s apartment. After taking a shower, she asked for a towel, to which he casually responded, “You’re standing on it.”

Griffin laughed as she explained, “You guys, that’s straight guys. He had one bath mat/towel that he used for both, and that was it. So naturally, I kept sleeping with him.”

Though Griffin has rarely spoken about their relationship, she previously mentioned it during a 2013 appearance on The Talk, where she revealed that her mother, Maggie, was not impressed by Black’s looks.

“I remember introducing him to my mum, and my mother said, ‘Oh my god, he looks like a serial killer,'” she recounted, per the Herald Sun.

She has also referenced their fling in her 2009 memoir, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, jokingly writing, “That’s right. I f—ed Jack Black. Okay, we went out only two or three times, but that’s a relationship in my book. And by the way, this is my book.”

Griffin humorously summed up the experience, saying their relationship may have been short-lived, but it certainly left her with unforgettable—and laugh-out-loud—memories.
