In a ‘Rolling Stone UK’ cover story interview, the pop star opened up about how they always wanted to be the “cool girl” in a breakup

Halsey has a lot of empathy for their younger self.
In a cover story interview with Rolling Stone UK on Wednesday, Oct. 16, the pop star, 30, recalled a party she hosted a few years back which the police shut down due to noise — and the deal she made to avoid trouble.
At the time, Halsey had been swimming in her underwear and surrounded by friends when the police arrived. To avoid any issues, the officers who were on site said she could avoid any penalties if she took a photo with them.
The “Ego” singer ended up taking them up on their ask and posed soaking wet in a bra alongside the police. While she found it funny at the time, as she’s gotten older, Halsey has reassessed.

“It wasn’t until a couple of years later that I was like, ‘Damn, those cops just have a picture of me half naked on their phone,'” Halsey told the publication. “I’m sure it comes out in bars. Ah, don’t love that.”

“That picture on that phone, that nude on someone’s phone, that Polaroid photo, all those little versions of me in that intimate space whether consenting or not, that are out in the world that people were using for whatever, I wish I could call them back,” Halsey said. “That’s a really lonely feeling.”
When the conversation turned to the idea of asking someone to delete their nudes, she pointed to the idea of being a people pleaser and how that translates to her single “Lonely Is the Muse.”
“I’ve always wanted to be the Cool Girl. And asking someone to delete all your nudes is not very Cool Girl of you, even in the breakup. I’m different now, but that song is about a decade and a half of that,” they explained.
