Sheryl Swoopes Amused as Angel Reese Labels Caitlin Clark Theory as ‘Absurd.’ Cau

Sheryl Swoopes recently addressed rumors surrounding her absence from a game between the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings, quelling speculation that it stemmed from a feud with rising star Caitlin Clark. Swoopes, a three-time WNBA MVP, has been vocal about her opinions on Clark, especially after defending Chicago Sky guard Diamond DeShields for a controversial foul against her during a previous game, which drew criticism from Indiana fans.

Following Swoopes’s noticeable absence during the Fever’s 100-93 victory over the Wings earlier this month, social media erupted with theories suggesting that she had been sidelined due to her past negative comments about Clark. However, Swoopes clarified her situation during a recent appearance on the *Unapologetically Angel* podcast with Angel Reese.

Laughing off the speculation, she explained, “That’s not how that happened. They were like, ‘Oh, Sheryl was replaced, they fired her, they kicked her off the game because it’s Caitlin Clark and she can’t do that game.’ I was contracted to do seven Dallas Wings games; I was never supposed to do that game anyway.” Swoopes emphasized that her contract had simply expired, and she found the rumors surrounding her absence amusing.

Reese echoed her disbelief over the exaggerated narrative, stating, “It’s stupid,” and pointing out that the whole incident was blown out of proportion.

Later in the podcast, Swoopes acknowledged Clark’s talent while discussing the best passers in the WNBA. She expressed admiration for Clark, Chelsea Gray, and Natasha Cloud, noting, “I had for sure on my list Caitlin and Chelsea. And Tash because I love Tash.” In a bid to mend any perceived rift, she even gave Clark a heartfelt shoutout, saying, “I’m going to give Caitlin Clark her flowers… what she has done coming into this league absolutely has brought more eyes, more marketing. People just want to watch the game, and they want to talk about it.”

Meanwhile, Clark and the Fever faced an early exit from the playoffs, losing to the Connecticut Sun 87-81. In a valiant effort to stave off elimination during the win-or-go-home Game 2, Clark recorded 25 points, nine assists, and six rebounds, showcasing her talent even in defeat.
