BREAKING NEWS: Russell Wilson ‘Ready to Sign’ as QB Market Awaits Aaron Rodgers’ Move, Says NFL Insider.giang

March 19, 2025 by Giang Giang

As NFL teams scramble to solidify their quarterback plans for the 2025 season, one of the league’s biggest names remains in limbo—Russell Wilson. The former Steelers and Seahawks quarterback is reportedly “ready to sign” with a new team, but his future is on hold as organizations wait for another veteran signal-caller to make his decision: Aaron Rodgers.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Wilson is prepared to ink a deal with either the New York Giants or the Pittsburgh Steelers, both of whom have shown interest. However, with Rodgers still weighing his next move, Wilson remains a secondary option, forced to wait in the wings.

“[Wilson] is in a position where he can and is ready to sign somewhere, but he appears to be the back-up No. 2 option in both Pittsburgh and New York,” Fowler reported on Friday. “So he’s got to wait on that Rodgers domino to fall, most likely.”

Rodgers Holding Up the QB Market

The Giants, Steelers, and now the Minnesota Vikings have all reportedly expressed interest in Rodgers, making him the top priority in this offseason’s quarterback carousel. Rodgers, who is coming off a lost season due to injury, is considering multiple offers but has yet to make a final decision.

Adding another layer of uncertainty, The Athletic has reported that retirement remains a possibility for the four-time MVP, further complicating the market for other quarterbacks.

That leaves Wilson—once considered one of the league’s premier quarterbacks—stuck in limbo. While he has been open about wanting to return to Pittsburgh after signing a one-year deal with the Steelers last offseason, the team’s front office has been noncommittal about bringing him back.

Instead, they have reportedly extended an offer to Rodgers, indicating he is their preferred option.

Wilson Exploring His Options

While waiting for clarity, Wilson has taken matters into his own hands. He recently visited the Giants and also made a trip to Cleveland to meet with the Browns. However, according to Fowler, his visit to Cleveland was more of a preliminary meeting rather than serious negotiations.

The situation is far from ideal for Wilson, who is hoping to secure a stable starting job after a turbulent few seasons. But as a seasoned veteran, he understands that in the NFL, patience can be just as important as performance. If Rodgers ultimately chooses to retire or sign elsewhere, Wilson could quickly become the top available option for quarterback-needy teams.

Until then, Wilson remains in a holding pattern, waiting for Rodgers to make the next move that could shape the quarterback landscape for the 2025 season.
