Pierce Brosnan Reveals the One Must-Have Quality for the Next James Bond
Former Bond star Pierce Brosnan has weighed in on what it takes to play the legendary 007. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the 71-year-old actor said that one key requirement for the next James Bond is that they must be British—calling it a “given.”
Brosnan portrayed the suave secret agent from 1995 to 2002 before Daniel Craig took over the role in 2006. Craig, 57, made his final appearance as Bond in No Time to Die (2021), leaving the coveted role up for grabs.
With speculation swirling about potential replacements—including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page, Josh O’Connor, Joe Alwyn, Theo James, and Idris Elba—Brosnan’s perspective adds weight to the ongoing debate about Bond’s future.
A New Era for the Franchise
Brosnan also commented on the recent shake-up within the Bond franchise. With Amazon MGM Studios gaining creative control in a new joint venture with longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the former Bond star praised their decision.
“In this world that is moving so fast now, at the speed of light, [the takeover] does come with a certain lament,” he admitted. “But I think it was the right decision for Barbara and Michael. It takes great courage for them to let go.”
Despite the changing landscape, Brosnan remains hopeful that Amazon will handle the iconic character “with dignity, imagination, and respect.”
Reflecting on His Bond Legacy
Brosnan expressed pride in his tenure as Bond, saying, “I’m very proud to have been part of the history and the legacy of Bond and the movies that I made with Barbara and Michael. We moved the needle, we brought it back to life.”
While he once entertained the idea of returning to the role, Brosnan recently told GQ that it might be best to “let sleeping dogs lie.” However, he remains open to the idea, adding, “How could I not be interested?”
As the search for the next 007 intensifies, one thing is clear: whoever steps into the role will have big shoes to fill—both in style and legacy.
